How to Get to Ocean Lodge, Sakalava Bay: Your 2026 Travel Guide
Madagascar is a destination you have to earn — and that's exactly what keeps it such an unspoilt gem. Getting to Ocean Lodge in Sakalava Bay is already part of the adventure.
Whether you're flying from London, Paris or Frankfurt, here is our updated 2026 guide to planning your Kitesurf Madagascar holiday with complete peace of mind.
1. Flight routes from Europe
There are currently two main gateways for reaching us from Europe.
Option A: Via Antananarivo (Tana)
This is the historic route, ideal if you want to see the capital or if you find better fares on long-haul flights.
International flight: Take an Air France or Corsair flight from Paris (CDG or Orly), or connect from your home airport.
Domestic flight: Connect with the national carrier Madagascar Airlines to Diego Suarez airport (DIE).
Option B: Via Nosy Be (the most convenient option)
Many kitesurfers now prefer to land at Nosy Be and avoid the stopover in Antananarivo.
Airlines: Ethiopian Airlines (via Addis Ababa) or Neos Air (direct flights and charters).
Advantage: Flights generally arrive around 2:25 PM, allowing you to reach the lodge the same evening.
2. Private transfer Nosy Be ➝ Ocean Lodge
If you choose the Nosy Be option, we arrange your complete transfer. It's the guarantee of a smooth journey to your comfortable beachfront bungalows.
The route:
Meet and greet at Nosy Be airport by our team.
Transfer by private vehicle, then a speedboat crossing (30 min) to Ankify.
Final leg by private 4x4 to Sakalava Bay.
Prices per person (full journey):
1 person: €240
2 people: €120 per person
3 people: €80 per person
4 people or more: €60 per person
3. Why Sakalava Bay is a kitesurfer's paradise
If riders travel from all over Europe to join us, it's for the guarantee of exceptional conditions. The Varatraza season (the local trade wind) delivers steady wind from March to November.
Whether you're a beginner or an expert, our centre offers kitesurf and wingfoil lessons at Sakalava with IKO-certified instructors. The shallow water and sandy bottom make it one of the safest spots in the world for fast progression.
4. Formalities and practical life at the lodge
Visa: A tourist visa is issued on arrival at the airport. Bring a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date.
Remote working: For digital nomads, we have Starlink, providing stable high-speed WiFi to stay connected with home.
Budget: To plan your trip, see our kitesurf holiday rates, including accommodation and watersports.
Ready to go?
Don't let logistics get in the way of your riding. Whether you arrive with Madagascar Airlines or via our private transfer from Nosy Be, the whole Ocean Lodge team is ready to welcome you for an unforgettable experience.
