Discover Northern Madagascar from Ocean Lodge

Sakalava Bay is not just a kitesurfing spot. Around the lodge, northern Madagascar offers landscapes you won’t see anywhere else: crystal-clear lagoons, tropical forests, unique geological formations and a town with a fascinating colonial past. Whether the wind is blowing or not, every day here has something to offer.

Day trips

Our excursions around Sakalava Bay

If the wind drops or if you’d like to explore the unique attractions of the Antsiranana region, our team will organise your day trips with certified local guides.

mer d'émeraude

The Emerald Sea

Take the boat from Ramena to a crystal-clear lagoon with unreal emerald-green hues. Go snorkelling amongst the coral reefs, relax and enjoy a lunch of grilled fish on a deserted islet. The finishing point for our downwind trips for independent riders.

montagne d'ambre à madagascar

The Amber Mountain

A high-altitude tropical rainforest national park. Diurnal and nocturnal lemurs, micro-chameleons, sacred waterfalls and lush endemic flora. A refreshing green retreat about 1½ hours from the lodge. Very popular with holidaymakers.

tsingy rouges

The Red Tsingy

A geological wonder unique in the world, shaped by erosion. Fairy chimneys made of sandstone, laterite and clay, in shades of red and ochre. An ever-changing landscape that shifts with the light and the seasons. An absolute must-see!

les trois baies à madagascar

The Three Bays

Sakalava, Pigeons and Dunes: three unspoilt bays accessible on foot along the coast. White sand, sacred cliffs, turquoise inlets and the remains of colonial fortifications. This is a coastal walk, not a boat trip.

plage de ramena à madagascar

Ramena Beach

A vast, golden sandy beach sheltered from the wind, ideal for swimming in calm waters. Explore the village, its seaside eateries and its grilled fish. Close to our second hotel, the Lakana Hotel.

montagne des français à madagascar

Montagne des Français

On the road to Diego-Suarez, just a few minutes from the Lodge, the Montagne des Français offers a panoramic view of the bay. It’s a lovely walk to go on, even on windy days when you’d rather stay on dry land.

A must-see

Diego-Suarez, a town worth exploring

Diego-Suarez (Antsiranana), 20 km from the lodge, is a town with a rich colonial past, shaped by French, Indian and Arab influences. Here you’ll find a blend of architectural styles, a bustling market, local restaurants and a harbour atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Madagascar.

On the road to Diego, near the lodge, don’t miss the Montagne des Français, a scenic spot overlooking the bay, which can be reached by foot.

Our team can organise your transfer or recommend an itinerary for the day.
